The Spanish Bank of Algae, aware of the importance of a meaningful implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) recognizes the sovereign rights  of  the  Parties to the CBD over their genetic resources and fully engages in the fulfillment of a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits derived from the utilization of genetic resources.

The Spanish Bank of Algae as part of the European Culture Collections’ Organization (ECCO) and of  the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) fully complies with the Micro-Organisms Sustainable use and Access regulation International Code of Conduct (MOSAICC), which latest version dates from June 2011.

Due to the relevance of the issue to our daily activities and the recent adoption of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS at the tenth Conference of the Parties to the CBD, the Spanish Bank of Algae has developed its own internal ABS code of conduct which is an updated version of MOSAICC in light of the provisions of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS.

The review of the internal policy of the Spanish Bank of Algae and the elaboration of this internal code of conduct, for the purpose of this declaration, has been conducted by the UNESCO Chair for the Environment of the Rey Juan Carlos University.

The internal code of conduct is at the disposal of any interested party.
