MIRRI's Strategic Research Innovation Agenda 2021 - 2030. "Microbial resources for a green, healthy and sustainable future".
Twenty years have passed since the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) published the report "Biological Resource Centres: Underpinning the Future of Life Sciences and Biotechnology". Nineteen years earlier, OECD's first report on biotechnology (Biotechnology – International Trends and Perspectives) was released, at a time when "experts and policy circles were still wondering whether this new technology was just one new tool in the changing toolkit of the chemicals industry, or whether it had perhaps more far-reaching significance".
Today, high-quality bioscience research and innovative bioindustries are essential contributors to tackle global societal challenges.
At MIRRI, we see the collections of microbial resources that we hold as treasures, in the sense that their true value comes not solely from its "possession", rather from its use. Our new Agenda unveils our vision for taking the best out of "our" treasures. We trust that it will also inspire our users and readers, on our common mission of solving global societal challenges towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world.
